Overview

Working with UK General as an Insurance Managing Agent, Debenhams wanted to offer a bespoke Wedding Insurance product for customers to be able to purchase insurance, with a choice of cover levels and cancellation cover. UK General required a white-label multi-platform B2C product ‘quote and buy website’, to be branded for launch as Debenhams and Weddingplan.

Requirements

Brand design systems were supplied. The multi-branded site was to be fully responsive and accessible, adhering to WCAG 2.0 AA requirements.  

Involvement

As Senior Designer at an Insurance Software provider, I worked within a cross-functional team, collaborating between in-house developers and the UK General product team.

Process and challenges

The user flows gave me structure from which to construct the datacapture journey and ensure the journey had a clear continuity. I took these and followed an iterative design process to produce prototype pages to gather feedback on usability and functionality before building HTML pages. 

The Quotation page featured a coloured accordion control, used to breakdown policy cover levels. The control used the same colour coding for consistency in the desktop and mobile layouts. Each cover level was given a colour and this was used to clearly emphasise price and call-to-action ‘Buy’ button.

Outcome

In 2014 we launched a responsive multi-platform white-label wedding insurance product, branded as Debenhams and Weddingplan. This remained live until Debehams went into administration and stopped selling new policies in 2021.
